Though I have no great love for the study of history itself, in fact I remember flunking in this subject once or twice in Junior High ;0. Still I do love a good story and the Bible is full of good ones.
It’s stories explain the origins, values, relationships, and structures of its culture. These stories, told over generations, are often teaching tools.
Not legends, not “cleverly devised myths” (2 Pet. 1:16) but historical and personal stories that reveal truth about God and His interaction with fallen humanity.
These stories describe real people, battling with real-life problems and interacting with the living God, who offers answers to these problems, my problems. ;)
So if your story was written as a Bible narrative, how might it read in contrast to how it ought to read? What kind of character are you and what might be your plot in life?
Personally I’m not a Martha..because like her sister I really like to sit at the feet of Jesus and soak it all up..but I’m not Mary either because I do tend to get anxious while sitting and am known to talk more then listen.
At one point I thought I might be like Esther because we do share similarities in how we didn’t have the same plans God did for us in our lives and certainly never saw some of the “for such a time as this” eras but when it comes down to it I’m not Queen of anything other then my own kitchen ;)
There’s Ruth talk about dedicated! I feel pretty strongly that I would humble myself as she and do what survival calls for..however to be as bold to sleep at a man feet well..that’s another story..first I think I would have attracted his attention in some other way. However if Boaz was as handsome a stud as my guy then it’s most likely I’d followed instructions and slept at his feet the first night. ;)
Speaking of men I know that there’s times when I’ve felt like Eve..tempting my dh when weak at the knees for me..still I don’t think I have the same burdens she had to carry through child rearing :0/ although at times I have to wonder how one child could be so different from the other.
I love Sara and admire the laughter she had when God finally blessed her womb..and even before this her acceptance in her situation the desire to please her husband is something admirable. But it’s those rash emotions that also leave me needing the Lord to clean it up..because of the times have I doubted His wisdom and laughed. Whew..I’m just relieved His grace is sufficient.
Then there’s Mary (mother of Jesus), Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, Noah's wife, Abigail (wife of Nabal and King David) Elisabeth, Eunice, Hannah, Joanna, Lois, Lydia of Thyatira, and Phebe.
There’s like 180 women in the Bible and many I’ve still not read about. All of them have a story and all were important enough to have written in His Word.
I’m just reading and learning and living and loving..all of it :)

I was recently asked who my favorite woman in the Bible was. Man, that was tough, I still don't know. I do love, though, that the Bible characters were human. They made dumb mistakes and some really questionable decisions...and God still used them~thank goodness, there is hope for me!
A while back, my daughter was reading a book called "Bad Girls of the Bible." She didn't get to finish it because it was due back to the library but she enjoyed what she read. I need to get it for her again so she can finish the book.
Anyway, reading accounts of these real women was very intriguing for her.
Have a great week Dawn!
