Some may think it’s crazy to go out on the first leg of a vacation the way we do..but we think it’s the best way.
Because we live in the mid west side of Texas it’s always the plan to get through the “boring parts” during dark-thirty, so we always leave the night before. Texas is the largest state after all..so getting out of it can take up a whole day, depending on the destination of coarse and driving the night before helps to give more time towards vacation spots!
Over the years we found it to be safer to drive at night because there’s less traffic on the highways and quieter too because the kids are passed out and you can enjoy a long distance without the sound of a whine “how much longer..?” To keep things safer we generally we take two hour shifts and sip on some caffeine., but the fact that we are just as excited to embark a on road trip like our kids are on birthdays and Christmas mornings also helps keep us wide eyed.
This trip was all about the mountains and pine trees and we couldn’t wait to get there!
A few sights we saw once we got up into the Apache National Forest.
The colors, open space, top peaks and trees pointing heaven wards, the laughter and the quiet moments of thoughts..all of it was a blessing.
And here’s evidence that we can be a fun road tripping family..
However we learned on this trip we aren’t a car family. Next time it will have to be a SUV *Yukon style before attempt another trip that took nearly 5,000 miles and 25+ hours of driving..fun times!

What a great trip! My parents always left the night before a drove in the dark, too. I think y'all are brilliant!
