My little 4yr old girl and I went to the big city for a doctors appt. this week.
It’s an hours drive there and Sissy fell asleep = quite time. I enjoyed taking in the rolling hills and independence again.
When we arrived to the Drs office, I asked her to sit right outside of the exam room door while I went in (the Dr. has to ck out his work and pull 3 of 4 stitches out) a few minutes later I came out and she is stone still.
I think she heard me saying
shouting“owhhh owhhh owwwwwhhhhhhhhhh!”I just smiled and said “time to go sweetie.”
On the way out..she wanted to know what we where doing next. “let’s go see Aunt C at her work.”
She works for USAA..it’s huge.
After texting her..she was excited to have us come over for the grand tour, introduce me to her co-workers and show off her niece.
In order to go there you first have to be on the guest list, ID through one of 5-6 gates..then you drive to the lobby down the road which is engulfed in water fountains; plants, trees, flowers..resembles a 10 star resort.
Upon checking in ..they take your ID give you a visitors badge and then you wait for your host to go through a fancy revolving glass door with the employees badge.
The first floor is like an airport terminal carts buzzing past even trolleys, restaurants; shops; retail stands and even several Starbucks in there..huge!
The reason for this..simply to make it easier for the employees to take lunch and work happier.
Well no wonder the turn over rate is soooo low!
When I asked her if lay-offs were a problem in this economy she explained..no..they call it “re-organizing” and they almost always will fill in a position for another whose being “re-organized” (unless they have a bad track record) to another office/field.
Nice..I’m impressed!
Every where you look there was history displayed like a museum of sorts, and walls of TV’s everywhere.
We head to her office which is across from a clinic/pharmacy (can you imagine?! you don’t even have to leave to see the doc?! or get meds?!) my sister works “on the curb”..sounds questionable hunh?
Let me clarify~ quickly.
She explained that it’s a tucked away not visible by passerby's because it is the “eyes and ears” of the employee operation..yeah she’s an USAA “secret agent” it’s her job to make sure they are doing their jobs..I always thought she’d make a good snitch. giggle snort giggle
said by the little sister. So anyways when you walk in you have to go in behind “a curbed wall of art”..hence the name.
During this tour Sissy had not spoken a word, not one word..just held onto my hand and seemed mute.
This was mind boggling to us because Sissy is always so talkative.
Going in to see her desk/office space we see at least fifty cubicles where a few heads popped up to see whose walking in..introduced to her coworkers..nice people..her boss..very nice lady and then it was time to say our goodbyes.
She escorted us out to the lobby.
I gave up the badge and collected my ID..then as soon as we stepped outside Sissy says:
“Momma, Aunt C works in a jungle..” then begins to sing a song about it..funny.
By the time I navigated through the 268 acre gated community it was 4’oclock traffic so I took the song bird for an early supper at red birds place. She thought this was great.
We’re settled in our booth and I asked her what she thought of Aunt C work?
“It’s big..why is it soo big?”
well because a lot of people work in there..
“then a lot of people watch TV.”
That’s why Aunt C works there..to make sure they do their work too.
“ohhhhhhh, may I have a big chocolate milk?”
On the way home she made up songs about the day..here’s some titles:
"momma screamed owwwwhhhh”
“follow me to the jungle”
“ red robbins is great”
“crazy people driving”
“finally going home”
I never once thought to turn on the radio..happy to hear what she thought of our little trip.
I’m also glad we went by to see my sister..happy she works in such a great place.

ohhhh now I wished I had gone. Soon no more working all night and I won't be left to sleep. I'm glad you got to stop by and see C. I am sure she enjoyed showing both of you off as well as her work place... hugs Mom!
i ♥ it when kiddies make up their own songs!!!
Sounds like you had a wonderful day!
Sounds like a nice day to me!!!
Oh I remember the chatter and the singing and it almost makes me cry. They grow up so fast Dawn. I am glad you took time to enjoy the simplicity of the moment, a moment that is actually pretty profound.
My heart hurts a little - I had little ones once too. Praise God for each of them (even though they seem almost grown).
