A recipe for good times...

I had no clue I'd wake up call my sil  saying "come over bake with me!" but that's just what we did!

Usually around the holiday's  we are always trying out new recipes together as we both share the burden of having picky husbands who are "meat and potatoes" boys aka boring eaters...so we share the love of new recipes together.

She's not a bloggette (yet) so I had the opportunity to share with her some great recipes from the blog sphere.

We started with a batch of homemade cinnamon rolls that the pioneer woman shares for breakfast. We finally got to enjoy these delicious treats for dinner... as we went through two attempts with the yeast...sensitive stuff and all but it helps however if you check the expiration on the package of yeast, my bad ;0)

As we were perfecting the yeast technique, we moved on to a recipe Valarie Lea shared recently "tomato basil squares".

You should  try'em they are delish!

Get's an A++ for taste and ease of making it! Just so you homeschool mom's know I'm planning to share this appetizer at the mom's meeting this week over potluck, so don't nab this one!

We also love sweet tea and  drank our share of sweet peach tea today as well... Kristen @ "we are that family"  and even if she doesn't like to cook she would have fit right in!

Before the day was up a blender full of salsa was made so if you buy it in a jar your cheating yourself!

Here's a simple way to do it yourself:

  • 1 Lg can of Hunts whole tomatoes (drained)
  • 1 onion (sweet ones taste great)
  • 2-3 fresh chili peppers (your choice of mild or the hot ones)
  • 1 bunch of cilantro ( as much as you like in it)
  • garlic (again just play with it)
  • Salt
  • dash of cumin
  • 2 tsp lemon juice ( this will help to preserve)

(tweek it till it's yours...salsa's are sooo easy!)

Dipping, drinking and baking squares and rolls as the cousins ran in~out~up~down~all over the house hiding from dinosaurs and squealing like wild Indians. While the husbands escaped to watch foolsball games, wondering what made us want to spend time cooking?

If they only knew what they were missing.

I didn't click a single pix of today activities... as I was under the influence of allot of sugar...so I'll be sharing one pix of my sweet sil (Lisa)

She also took me down the road from our place to show me where they are looking to buy a house...that has a garden area already and only 3 mins away, YAY!

Which means we can have more days like today or even swap out Indians with their dinosaurs every now & then!

Here's another pix of them together.PICT0334

Thanks Lisa for waking up early this morning, putting aside the laundry and saying "sure I'll come over" just to accompany my hankering to try out new recipes, I feel blessed to have you as my stylist and sister in law, really I do!

Dawn ;0)
